Install Windows IoT Core on Raspberry Pi 3B

Last years Microsoft and Windows are being transformed and got a lot of improvements. Windows is now running smoother and with less errors than before, so I decided to give it a try and install it on one of my Raspberry Pi 3Bs. Also I want to run a .NET Core on it (It will be in another article). I know it support Linux, but still.

Let’s get started.

First, go to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/iot-core/downloads and download the Windows 10 IoT Core Dashboard.

Once you have it downloaded – install it.

And it will take some time to download all the files from internet.

Once the Dashboard is installed it will pop up.

Click on Set up new device

And select the device type, OS Build, Drive and WiFi Network Connection if you have. Then enter the device name (I left the suggested one) and enter new Administrator password.
Click on Download and install button.

You will be asked to confirm that the SD Card will be erased.

Click on the Continue button.

The dashboard will download and start flashing the image.

Then it will open new command prompt window to complete the flashing. Keep in mind that you might be asked to allow opening the command prompt. Allow it.

Once this is complete you will see this screen:

Congratulations. Your Windows 10 IoT is flashed. Insert the card into the Raspberry Pi, attach the monitor and keyboard if not done and power it up. You will be asked few things to complete the setup there.
